A Legend of Years ETS2 to Be Dethroned: Road Kings Is Coming

Up until today, many truck and lorry simulation games have been released. Each of them tried to attract players interested in this category during their development stage. But promised features either fell short or reached players in an incomplete way. That’s why ETS2 and ATS have reigned as the kings of the category since 2012, taking nearly the whole pie. With the announcement of Road Kings, set to release in 2026, an era is officially coming to an end.

Let me explain why I’m so confident this will be such an ambitious game. The developer is Saber Interactive. This is the studio behind the Spintires series. With games like SnowRunner and Road Craft, they delivered the most realistic physics ever seen in gaming, gathered a massive player base, and proved themselves as one of the strongest developers in the simulation field.

The publisher will be Focus Entertainment, a company well-known for bringing beloved games to players. Some of their titles include the Farming Simulator series, the Spintires series, Space Marine, and more. Thanks to this partnership, Road Kings has already made its name known to fans of the genre even before release. We’d be thrilled if we can make even a small contribution ourselves.

So, what awaits the players? Let’s take a look at some highlights. But before that, please check out the Gamescom reveal trailer.

Getting out of the truck has always been one of the top requests from ETS2 players. Filling up your own tank, parking, and checking your truck’s tires should not be denied to the truckers of the future. In the opening scene of the Road Kings video, the driver stops by a roadside diner to satisfy his hunger, then continues his journey after receiving a freight message on his phone.

Instead of just a truck driving simulator, this could become a full-fledged truck driver simulator. Stopping for meals when hungry, changing a flat tire, locking your vehicle to sleep safely in a parking lot—these might all be part of the experience. After all, you don’t become a trucker by letting the trailer auto-park. First, you need to back up neatly, get out of the cab to check, then lower the trailer legs and uncouple it. The game already shows these features in the trailer. What more could you ask for?

We’re returning to America. The game will be set in the US. It’s too early to say how large the map will be. But if you’re aiming to make a game of this scope, you’ll need a massive map. To ensure smooth performance on today’s PCs, it might adopt a structure similar to SnowRunner’s map system. For instance, when moving from one 100 km² area to another, we may encounter a loading screen.

Natural disasters will also be present in the game. The studio is already known for working on terrains devastated by floods and avalanches, bringing them back to life. Are we ready to witness America’s harsh climates and still deliver shipments on time?

All new updates, development notes, screenshots, and videos will be shared on our site as they are released. This is already being announced to all truck simulation fans. Stay tuned!
